Pie Ranch cultivates a healthy and just food system from seed to table through food education, farmer training, and regional partnerships.
Our Emerging Farmers Program is comprised of
nine-month long apprenticeships and shorter term internships. We are seeking enthusiastic, hard-working, self-motivated individuals interested in becoming organic farmers committed to social justice.
The year-long Apprenticeship Program is available for people who have worked for at least one season on a farm. Apprentices help out with all aspects of the ranch. Work includes sowing, planting, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting a variety of crops; animal husbandry; experiential education with youth and other groups; direct marketing through our farm stand, Community Supported Agriculture program and sales to local restaurants and bakeries. While the Apprenticeship model is mainly focused on learning by doing, our weekly farm meeting/walk and monthly classes are opportunities to expand your knowledge around sustainable food production.
Our Apprenticeship program runs from March to December. We seek people who are able to dedicate the entire year to this effort and in return there is the opportunity to experience from cover crop to cover crop, the full cycle of a farm.
Payment to apprentices includes room in individual 14’ yurts or our historic house, board (all you can eat from the farm and basic staples), and a $600/month stipend plus $100 for health benefits. Apprentices have access to their own garden space, outdoor shower and two rustic, simple kitchens. We also consider the opportunity to live, learn, and work on a beautiful farm engaged in meaningful work as a form of payment. Two weeks of vacation and the equivalent of traditional holidays are honored. We have filled our positions for the 2017 Apprenticeship. If you are interested in the 2018 Apprenticeship Program, our application will be posted in the fall.
Our Summer Internship runs from June through September and is intended for folks who are curious about farming but haven’t yet had many opportunities to work on farms. Interns work alongside our apprentices in all aspects of the work week. Interns will earn a stipend of $250.00 per month. In addition to the stipend, interns are provided with a tent space, access to an outdoor kitchen and bathroom, food grown on the farm and staples, educational instruction, and the chance to live and work in a beautiful, productive environment. We are now accepting applications until March 15th, 2017. Please fill out this form in addition to e-mailing your application to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
