PRIVATE FARM PROGRAMS

 

We believe in experiential learning, connecting people of all ages to new foods, soil, and
open spaces. Visits to the farm provide a wide range of opportunities for your group to
engage with all that Pie Ranch has to offer from field to kitchen. Explore the program
offerings below to find an option that meets your group’s objectives and wishes!

FARM VISIT Menu

 

 

Option #1
Introduction to a Working Farm

Groups of 10 to 30 ::: 90 minutes
10am–12:30pm

 

Enjoy a two-hour walking tour of our farm with one of our staff. Tour includes a milling demonstration in our historic Roadside Barn and discussion of our small-farm operation.
Guests are invited to bring their own lunch to picnic in our meadow following their tour.

 

10am:  Arrival and Welcome

10am–10:30am:  Overview of Pie Ranch

10:30–11:45am:  Milling Demo followed by walking tour of farm

11:45am–12:30pm:  Discussion and reflection

*12:30pm:  Enjoy our meadow for your own picnic lunch (optional)

 

 

 

Option #2

CONNECTING WITH THE SOIL

Groups of 10 to 30 ::: 3.5 hours
9:30am–12:30pm

 

Enjoy a facilitated tour of the farm, engage in a farm activity facilitated by one of
our farm team members. Guests are invited to bring their own lunch to picnic
in our meadow at the end of the experience.

 

9:30am:  Arrival and Welcome

9:30–10:00am:  Overview of Pie Ranch, ice breaker, safety review

10:00–11:15am:  Walking Tour of Farm

11:15am–12:30pm:  Farm project with farm team

*12:30pm:  Enjoy our meadow for your own picnic lunch (optional)

 

 

 

Option #3
FOOD JUSTICE FROM FIELD TO TABLE

Groups of 10 to 30. ::: 3.5 hours
9:30am–1:00pm

 

Enjoy a facilitated tour while harvesting some seasonal produce that will be
included in a dish prepared by your group that will compliment a buffet
prepared by our visiting Chef Educator.

 

9:30am:  Arrival and Welcome

9:30–10:00am:  Overview of Pie Ranch

10:00–11:15am:  Walking Tour of Farm

11:15am–12:00pm:  Farm harvest with farm team

12:00–1:00pm:  Culinary lesson and prep

1:00pm: Enjoy a lunch buffet prepared just for your group

 

 

 

Option #4
THE WHOLE PIE

Groups of 10  to 20 ::: 3.5 hours
9:30–1:00pm

 

Begin your day with a walking tour of our farm. We will then form 2 teams: farm & culinary. 
The farm team will work alongside members of our farm apprentice group on a seasonal farm project while the culinary team creates and bakes pies from scratch. The groups will reunite
to enjoy the lunch buffet and pies made fresh that day to conclude the visit.

Winter

Farm: Soil tests; sowing wheat; pruning cane berries & apple trees; greenhouse work;
paint signs for farm stand & tours/workdays; pest control, gopher/rodent trapping
Pie: Lemon

 

 

Spring

Farm: Prep ground for planting;set-up irrigation; pest/disease control; sowing in

greenhouse; direct sowing & transplanting; harvest & post-harvest handling; weed

cultivation; animal husbandry; pest control, gopher/rodent trapping

Pies: Lemon, strawberry rhubarb

 

 

Summer

Farm: Irrigation; sowing in greenhouse; direct sowing & transplanting; pest/disease control; weeding; summer/apple pruning; harvest & post-harvest handling; animal
husbandry; pest control, gopher/rodent trapping

Pie: Strawberry rhubarb

 

 

Fall

Farm: Harvest, plant strawberries & garlic, irrigation, pest control, preparing ground
for winter cover crops, weeding, mulching fruit trees, pulling out summer crops
(corn, beans), winnowing beans and processing them for drying.

Pies: Apple, pumpkin
