Pie Ranch cultivates a healthy and just food system from seed to table through food education, farmer training, and regional partnerships.
Next is Saturday, March 18th
2:00pm / Work Day
What kind of activities will you do? The farm projects change every week and each day with the passing of the season, but these tips will help prepare you:
Parking is behind the Roadside Barn for you and the other farm hands.
Check-in at the Roadside Barn where everybody will join up to start.
Please leave dogs at home. (We love them too, but this isn’t a good event for them!)
For comfort bring bottles of water to stay hydrated, layers of clothing to adapt to unpredictable weather, sunscreen and sun hats to shade you, and wear closed-toe shoes to protect your feet!
To pitch in, bring work gloves to protect your hands, gardening tools for working the soil and cutting plants, and plenty of enthusiasm! (We have backup gloves and tools in case you forget, so don’t fret!)
4:00pm / Optional Farm Tour
Cost is $12–20 per person.
Our tour discusses our sustainable agricultural practices, ranges over the entire 27 acres of the farm, takes folks in to peek at the historic Steele Ranch buildings, visits the goats, cows, chickens, and pigs and when possible, includes sampling from the fields.
6:00pm / Potluck Dinner followed by music and dancing!
Cost for the dance is $15–20 per person on a sliding scale; everyone contributes what they can! PLEASE NOTE THAT AN RSVP is recommended but not required and is helpful for our own planning purposes. Nobody will be turned away.
The potluck brings several dozen people out, each sporting a dish they’ve cooked up to share.
The dance features the County Line Pickers (Jim Davies, bass; Joni Davies, guitar; Josh Lane, mandolin; Ken Clarkson, banjo; Jon Young and Nancy Vail, fiddles) with caller Andy Wilson to lead the dosey-does and more!
To encourage a friendly family atmosphere and encourage safe driving out on Hwy 1, the potluck and barn dance are alcohol-free events. Please register using the Sign Up button at the top of this page and note that we can only accommodate groups of 10 or less. Our office is closed on Saturday and Sunday so the latest RSVP we can accept is the Friday before 3pm the day before the barn dance.
