Pie Ranch: The Next 20 Years

What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make. -Jane Goodall

As we look back on 20 years of food & farming education and regional organizing, we celebrate our achievements as well as the lessons learned. Through fire, pandemic, floods, and the vagaries of politics, we have pivoted, rebuilt, and persevered to be a place of connection and possibility for what our relationships with each other and the land could be. We take this time to thank you for being part of our accomplishments and ask you to give generously and support us in ensuring the next twenty years are just as fruitful.

What will these next 20 years at Pie Ranch look like?

While we are committed to continuing our farm based education programs, feeding communities, and tending the land with care, the times cry out for a shared regional vision that includes more climate smart, bio-diverse farms and ranches that are directly linked to the millions of eaters in our surrounding urban centers.

  • Food insecurity in the Bay Area and across the nation is a growing problem exacerbated by the high cost of living, stagnant wages and cuts to social services. Food insecurity disproportionately affects our most vulnerable folks. Pie Ranch intends to use your donation to continue to advocate for policy change that brings affordable, nutritious food to eaters around the Bay.

  • The number of farmers continues to decline in the United States - we need to cultivate the next generation of farmers who not only nourish us but steward the land. Pie Ranch will use funds raised to continue to provide land access and mentorship to early-stage farmers who are eager to grow their businesses and nourish their communities.

  • Housing for farmworkers and land access for farms remains a serious barrier to the successful integration of new producers into our communities.  Pie Ranch will continue to collaborate with stakeholders, partner organizations, policymakers and others to ensure that farmers and farmworkers have access to housing here on the Coastside and beyond.

  • The Bay Area, along with the rest of the world is facing unprecedented challenges due to the climate crisis. The need for farmers who work with the land instead of using extractive practices has never been more vital.  Pie Ranch will continue to foster relationships with farmers who commit to bio-diverse, climate-friendly farming practices that care for the land and the creatures who they share the land with.

We will need significant support to actualize this vision. With your help, we will continue to work to bring this vision into reality, ensuring protection of the land, support for farmers, and providing local eaters with connection and nourishment for the next twenty years and beyond.

Join us in our vision and support Pie Ranch today and may we all become good ancestors like Jane!

With gratitude,

Nancy & Team
