Weed’em Out

The Weed‘em Out volunteer event at Cascade Ranch is back, and our last event of the year is November 14!

Over many years, Cascade Creek has been affected by the spread of invasive plant species, causing a loss of biodiversity and the ecosystem services attributed to this diversity. By removing these invasive species, we are helping to restore the riparian corridor surrounding Cascade Creek; promoting climate and fire resilience to this region; and demonstrating our solidarity with the work that local tribal bands have been doing for years to make native plants available to everyone.

February Volunteer Work Day

RSVP here for the 3rd Saturday Volunteer Workday. Spaces can fill up, so please RSVP only if you plan to attend, and if your plans change, email contact@pieranch.org. Consider staying after the volunteer day to join our Barn Dance in the Farmstand at 6:30 pm (doors open and pie slice sales begin at 6pm), register here for the dance, and select the tickets for volunteers to receive a discount.

The volunteer day begins in the Native Garden that Pie Ranch co-created with the Amah Mutsun Land Trust. We will split into two groups and rotate between working in the Native Garden and Pie Ranch's Program Garden. The types of jobs we do on volunteer days depend on what needs to be done at that point in the season. Volunteers help with planting, weeding, harvesting, culling, and mulching. There is also maintenance work to be done—cleaning up areas damaged by the wildfire, removing debris, and sometimes even infrastructure improvement or repair. Most of our volunteer opportunities involve hard but rewarding physical labor on the farm. Most jobs require heavy lifting, squatting, bending, lots of walking, and a full day out in the sun, wind, or other coastal weather.

If you cannot volunteer on the weekends, please consider joining us for our weekly volunteer day on Thursdays from 9am to 12pm by submitting your RSVP here.
