Pie Ranch Artist Residency Program.

Pie Ranch Artist Residency Program.

Pie Ranch’s mission is to cultivate a healthy and just food system from seed to table through food education, farmer pathways, and regional partnership.

We are thrilled to offer a new program, The Pie Ranch Artist Residency Program. This program will welcome four local artists to live and work in our newly built farmhouse in October 2025.

Pie Ranch is an educational non-profit, and an organic farm in Pescadero on the beautiful coast nestled in a valley with ocean views. We welcome local food-justice focused artists to apply.

The Pie Ranch Artist Residency is a 1-month program designed for artists who are residents of  San Mateo or Santa Clara counties. This residency is specifically designed for artists whose work addresses food justice movements, farmworker rights, agroecology, Indigenous foodways, and/or food sovereignty or artists who would like to propose and create new work that address these topics. We are excited to host artists from multiple disciplines and/or artists who work across many disciplines including but not limited to:visual artists, painters and muralists, film makers, writers and poets, musicians, chefs, photographers, dancers, and more. We also welcome artists’ collaborations (maximum of 4 artists) who would like to propose a project together to work on during their time at the residency. This residency will be self-directed and project-based. Artists can propose to continue working on a pre-existing project that addresses topics of food justice or propose to work on a new body of work. In the application process, we will request a short description of the project and how you would like to spend your time during the residency. We envision your proposal aligning with Pie Ranch’s mission and values. We strongly encourage artists from diverse backgrounds to apply for this opportunity (women of color, BIPOC, LGBTQ+).

At the end of the residency, Pie Ranch is pleased to host a group exhibition and celebration that will be open to the community. This could take the form of a formal art exhibition, a film screening, a meal, a reading, or another presentation of the residents' work. The intention is to celebrate the artist's time at Pie Ranch and to make an offering to engage the greater community. We expect that all residents participate in some capacity.
